Overview

This expedition will take travelers to join a scientific conservation program in a well-preserved spot in Pantanal and discover the secrets of millions of years within the formation Serra da Bodoquena including one full day escorted by a top researcher and speleologist expert who mapped and explored several caves and registered new species in the area.

Day by Day

Day 1- Campo Grande / Pantanal Lodge

Depart on land transfer to a Pantanal Lodge. Check-in, general information and presentation of the facilities. Afternoon meeting with Alexine Keuroghlian, the head researcher of the Peccary Project, and first tour to see the amazing birds and wildlife on the surroundings. Dinner & overnight.

 

Days 02 & 03 - Pantanal Lodge

Full days of tours and activities at the lodge, joining Alexine and the Peccary Project’s team. Travelers will take part and know in details and from the field the outstanding conservation work of the Peccary Project in the region, especially on the critically endangered White-lipped peccary.

 

Day 04 - Pantanal / Bonito

Depart after breakfast from Pantanal to Bonito by land transfer. Check-in at Pousada in Bonito, afternoon/evening at leisure. By the evening the group will meet and have a presentation with Lívia Cordeiro Medeiros, an expert in Speleology who studied, explored, mapped and monitored several caves in Bonito region.

 

Day 05, Bonito

Full day on tours escorted by expert Lívia Medeiros. First stop will be the number one post card of Bonito – the Blue Lagoon Cave. Lívia will detail discovers made on different studies in the Blue Lagoon Cave. 

Lunch at a restaurant in Bonito followed by another cave exploration with Lívia Medeiros. This time travelers will visit a dry cave and will be mesmerized with the amazing formations as stalactites, stalagmites, columns and coraloids. Return by the end of the day to your hotel.

 

Day 06, Bonito

Pick up at your hotel and drive to Recanto Ecológico Rio da Prata, elected several times as the number 1 attraction in Bonito. The tour starts with a walk through the riverine forest until the Olho d’Água River Spring, a huge natural pool of crystal-clear waters. Equipped with neoprene clothes, mask & snorkel, travelers “float” downstream snorkeling at this magical natural aquarium for around 2km. Tour ends with a delicious lunch at the main facilities. Afternoon drive to Buraco das Araras (Macaws’ Sinkhole), a natural crater with 124 meters deep and 500 meters diameter carved at the brazilian Cerrado where a large group of Red-and-Green Macaws nests and live. Travelers will be able to observe the great activity of those amazing birds and several other species. Return do hotel.

 

Day 07 – Bonito / Campo Grande

After breakfast, departure back to Campo Grande by private vehicle. End of the Pantanal & Bonito Science & Nature Experience.
