Overview
This itinerary cover to 3 distinct lodges located on firmly preserved areas at North & South Pantanal and provides a lifetime travel experience for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. The main goal of the itinerary is to spot the Pantanal’s Big Five – Jaguar, South American Tapir, Giant Anteater, Giant Otter & Anaconda - on their natural habitats, but guarantee also encounters with several other exotic species of Pantanal’s fauna and an immense variety of beautiful and colorful birds.
Day by day
Day 1- Cuiabá / Araras Lodge
Arrival at Cuiabá Airport (CGB) and transfer directly to Araras Lodge. Slow drive through Transpantaneira Road enjoying the sceneries and wildlife sights/encounters. Arrival check-in followed by a walking tour at the surroundings. Return for dinner and overnight.
Days 2 & 3 - Pantanal Araras Lodge
Araras Lodge offers comfortable suite rooms and excellent regional food featuring organic salads, vegetables, meat and seasonal fruits. Full days of tours/safaris searching for endemic birds, tapirs, anteaters and many other wildlife species. Tours available: canoeing, horseback riding, Jeep safari during the day & at night, walking trails.
Day 4 - Araras Lodge / Porto Jofre Hotel
Slowly drive after breakfast in a private car through the Transpantaneira Road touring and photographing. Arrival for lunch at Hotel Porto Jofre. Afternoon birding around the lodge. Dinner and overnight.
Days 5 & 6 - Porto Jofre Hotel
Full days on boat trips divided in morning and afternoon explorations, always in private basis. The group will be mainly looking for Jaguars at the riverbanks and giant otters swimming. But will also have great chances for watching many other wildlife species. Tours’ times and program will be scheduled directly with the naturalist guide and hotel’s manager.
Day 7 - Porto Jofre Hotel / Caiman Lodge
Morning on boat exploration. Return for check-out and lunch. Departure at 13h30pm on panoramic flight over the Pantanal heading to Caiman Lodge (1h45min flight). Arrival for check-in, rest and afternoon/evening tour on the surroundings of the lodge.
Days 8 & 9, Pantanal (Caiman Lodge)
Caiman Lodge is known as one of the best nature lodges in South America and offers comfortable charming accommodations, professional staff, delicious food and high quality of services. Full days exploring the region of Caiman Lodge. Tours are divided in morning and afternoon explorations; travelers will also have the chance of doing night safaris to spot wildlife. At Caiman Lodge there are also chances for finding Jaguars, but the overall wildlife experience is normally so good that if you don’t really miss the wild cats.
Day 10, Pantanal (Caiman Lodge) / Campo Grande
Departure after breakfast on private vehicle to Campo Grande (290km, 03h30min drive). Arrival in time for your flight. End of Pantanal Big Five trip
